Egyptian Arab Land Bank is the new name for Arab Land Bank, which was established in 1947 after an unanimous decision by Arab League to ractice business in Palestine.
After emerging Egyptian Real Estate bank – which was established in 1880 – to Arab Land Bank, the name has been changed to EGYPTIAN ARAB LAND BANK.
On January 9, 1947, the Bank was registered as an Egyptian shareholding company based in Cairo. This was directly followed by its registration in Palestine. However, the disturbances of the War of 1948 halted the Bank's activities.
After the situation had stabilized, the company registered a new, in accordance with the Jordanian laws of the time. In 1951, its business recommenced in the two banks of The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. |
The initial capital of the Bank, JD.600,000 , was then transferred to Jordan, allowing the Bank to become active.
The company started by providing agricultural loans to the inhabitants of Palestine, but soon expanded its service to include building loans. Jordan's existing two banks had lacked specialized land-lending establishments. Later the company became a commercial bank. Before 1967, it had opened branches in Amman, Al -Mafriq, Irbid, Jerusalem, Nablus, Bethlehem, Jericho and Gaza.
After foreign occupation, the four branches of the West Bank, along with the Gaza branch, were all closed. The Bank’s business was then limited to the four branches, in Amman, Al-Zarqaa, Irbid and Al-Mafriq. Subsequently, branches of the bank were opened in Amman, Zerka, Mafraq, Irbid, Marka, Russaifah, Jabal Amman, Aqaba, Shmeisani, Wadi Al-Seir,Tla’ Al-Ali, Jabal Al-Hussein, Alsweifiyeh, Jubeiha, Abu-Alanda, Ramtha, Al-Hashimi, Medical City and Wehdat.
The Palestine branches in Gaza, Bethlehem, Nablus and Jericho have since then been reopened, as well as a new Khan-Younis branch established in July, 1997. The paid-up capital of Jordanian branches is JD.15,000,000.
