Shopping Tips
Enter into the thick of the souk crowds for the most fun. Haggle very, very hard, browse before you buy and enter into the spirit. Don't believe the shopkeeper who assures you it's a genuine ‘antique' – in any case antiques may not be exported. Shopping hours are 9am-9pm, with a two-hour lunch break around 2-4pm. Larger stores may close on Sunday; markets are usually open daily. Banks are closed on Friday.


Books Market In Egypt
The value of the book market in Egypt is estimated to be approximately £50m in 2006 according to The Publishers Association’s Egypt Publishing Market Profile 2007. It is a market based on educational requirements, where even the trade market tends to focus on self-help and educational success titles. There are around 450 publishers and about the same number of bookshops, though some are no bigger than kiosks. The legal deposit bulletin reports that in 2004, 7631 new titles were published. Average print runs are 3,000-5000 at most, but are often lower.
